Up-and-Coming Destinations for LGBTQ Travelers

You know about the world-renowned parades, and cities that draw crowds of thousands, but there are a few destinations that are quickly becoming go-tos for LGBTQ travelers.

  • Pride is most commonly celebrated in June to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall Riots, which was a catalyst in the fight for equal rights.
  • Gilbert Baker’s original Pride flag design featured eight colors, each with a distinct meaning: red for life, orange for healing, yellow for sunlight, green for nature, blue for harmony, and purple for spirit.
  • 30 volunteers hand-dyed and stitched the first two rainbow flags used for San Francisco’s Gay Freedom Day Parade in 1978.
  • The first Pride march occurred a year after the events at Stonewall, on June 28, 1970. It was referred to as the Christopher Street Liberation Day March.
